Prizes

Every year, the TUM Association of Alumni and Friends awards several prizes in recognition of the achievements of the younger generation at TUM.

Presidential Entrepreneurship Award

Since 2013, TUM has awarded the Presidential Entrepreneurship Award to outstanding spin-offs of the university whose business ideas are significantly based on research results of TUM. Further criteria are a high growth potential of the company as well as secured initial financing.

TUM Supervisory Award

The Supervisory Award recognizes excellence in the support of next-generation academic talent since 2018 and is awarded by the Graduate Council of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the body representing the university’s doctoral candidates.

Prizes for docotoral and post-docotral theses

The TUM Association of Alumni and Friends has been awarding prizes for outstanding doctoral theses and dissertations (EUR 1,500 each) since 1979. The proposals are made – alternatingly – by the Deans of the individual faculties and schools.

The prize-winners are awarded in the course of the Annual General Meeting in December, which – according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung – is “almost a social event”.

Awards for Apprentices

Every year, more than 50 apprentices complete their vocational training at TUM.

There are 18 occupations to choose from: from building materials inspector to IT specialist, from biology lab technicians to precision mechanics, from gardeners to animal keepers – TUM offers many interesting vocational training opportunities for young people.

All apprentices are supervised by the TUM Education Center for non-academic vocational training (Ausbildungszentrum für die nichtakademische Berufsausbildung, AuTUM).

TUM is proud of its apprentices.

TUM is especially proud of the high number of guild winners and outstanding graduates in the respective IHK professions. Every year, the most successful apprentices are honored with the “TUM President’s Prize for Apprentices” (endowed with a prize money of 250 €).
